ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

The following individuals are eligible to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination:

EXAMINATION DEADLINE AND FEE:

The PE exam is given twice per year, usually in April and October.  Some PE exams are only given once a year during the October time frame.  Please consult the Examination Dates page (engineers.texas.gov/examdates.htm) in this website for the current schedule and locations. Your online registration or scheduling form and fee must be received on or before the examination deadline. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS made.

The Special Structural II Examination fee is for the combined A.M. and P.M. sections. New NCEES policy states that examinees are now required to take both the A.M. and P.M. sections together. (See Changes to Structural II Exam starting 2004) Remittance should be made payable to the "Professional Engineers' Board." Examination fees are non-refundable and cannot be applied toward future examinations, application fees, or annual license renewal fees.

The Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination is offered in specific disciplines of engineering. Candidates may test in any of the following disciplines:

The Board will administer any examination written or approved by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

The engineering examinations offered by the NCEES are concerned with design, research and development, operations, applications, and modifications of systems and processes in the various disciplines. Some problems may require knowledge of engineering economics. Examination specifications and formats may be viewed/printed from the NCEES website at http://www.ncees.org/

STUDY MATERIALS
The board does not endorse any particular study courses or study materials for the FE or PE exams. Many Universities or Professional Societies or Associations have study information for the exams. EXAMINATION TIME
Admission tickets for the examination are mailed to candidates approximately two weeks before the examination date. Candidates must arrive at their test site by 7:10 a.m. with the white copy of the admission ticket and a photo I.D. Candidates without both an admission ticket and photo I.D. will not be allowed into the examination room. It is recommended that candidates bring sack lunches as the time allowed for lunch may be limited to less than a full hour.

EXAMINATION and REFERENCE MATERIALS
The Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination is an open book examination. ONLY the following items may be brought into the examination room:

a) NCEES will provide pencils for exams. Candidates will not be allowed to bring in their own pencils.

b) Calculators: NCEES has a list of calculators that are permitted in the exam room. No other calculators will be permitted. See NCEES Calculator Policy for more information and an updated list of calculators.
